My New Antenna Mast Mount
What I want is an antenna mount that I could keep in the Jeep at all times. Having seen various kinds of drive-on antenna mounts, they seemed like there could be a bit of a storage problem.
Unlike most Drive-on mast mounts, I didn’t want to use metal because it tends to be difficult to store in the Jeep. It also had to be quick and easy to deploy. I decided to make it two separate pieces. The bottom piece would be a piece of 1×6 inch piece of scrap wood with a 4″ PVC end cap bolted to it. The top piece would attach to the Jeep’s roof rail. This piece would be made out of PVC pipe.
Here is a photo of the bottom part of the drive-on mount:
The 4 inch end cap is much larger than the bottom of the Spiderbeam mast, but that’s ok. All it has to do is to keep the mast from kicking out sideways. So having a couple inches of “slop” is not a problem. To make this piece just drill a hole in the center of the end cap, and secure it to the board with an 8-32 stainless wood screw.
I have found it best to store this piece underneath the front passenger seat. When I pull into a parking spot, I reach under the seat and grab this piece before I get out of the Jeep.
As I mentioned, the second piece of my Mast Mount i made from PVC pipe and attaches to the roof rail of my Jeep. Here is a photo of the upper / second piece of my mast mount. This is also showing the Spiderbeam Mast on the left.

Stumbled across your great website following a comment on the KM4ACK – Pi group. My wife (Jan, N8SEW) and I (AI8Z, ex WB8JJA) are originally from the Buckeye State and looks like we enjoy many of the same Ham radio activities (NPOTA in 2016, POTA and SOTA). Got a well used Jeep Wrangler a few years ago for knocking around the Four Corners region of the Southwest. I’m planning to do some permanent installation of HF equipment in it. This antenna mount looks especially interesting. Also interested in your comments re. FD loggers and Pi zero applications. More reading on your web site to follow…
Thanks for sharing, hope to run into you on the air and 73!

Thanks for your kind words! Sounds like you have a great POTA vehicle there.
Happy off-roading!
